September Design Challenge 2nd Runner-Up: Wooden Thimble

Over the next few weeks, we at CBC will be conducting interviews with out winners of the September design competition.  The theme was 'Back to School'.  Today we will feature our second runner-up:  Wooden Thimble.  Get to know this charming country boutique and its owner, Brooke.

When did you learn to sew?
I learned to sew when I was around 13 on my great grandmother's sewing machine.  Although I didn't make really anything until several years later, when I made my husband a quilt for Christmas.

What made you want to share your talent with others?
I made a pillowcase dress for my daughters that looked like it came from a high-end store.  After several requests to make some from others, I jumped in head first.  Expect for straight stitch, I am a self-taught sewer/quilter.  I also found the area of country/camouflage boutique style items to be lacking.

How did you decide on your Shop's name?
My Grandparents did crafts.  My Grandmother sewed and my Grandfather did the wood work.  Therefore, when deciding on a name, I knew I wanted to continue the tradition so I opted for a spin off with "Wooden Thimble".

What are some of your favorite items in your shop, and why are they special to you?
I really love my hoodie and jellyroll skirt.  The hoodie was an idea I had that I hadn't seen anywhere else, and it's one of the few things my husband really likes-LOL.  He's not much for dresses or frilly/girly things.  I love my jellyroll skirt because no two look exactly alike.

What do you like to do when you are not sewing for your boutique?
I am a SAHM to 2 girls that are 17 months apart and a cattle farmer.  We raise registered Black Angus.  I also used to show cattle, so I try to stay up on those trends.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
I am offering FREE Shipping on my items until 10/5/2013.  Use Coupon Code "FREESHIP" when making your purchase.  Also, please join me on my Facebook Page to see new items in my shop and updates about my farm.
